Come and celebrate another fantastic year at Astbury on the 30th October!!! We are having a day of racing and fun followed by our traditional trip up the hill to Nabanno’s Indian restaurant.
Boats and windsurfing kit will be booked on a first come, first served basis. The dinghy fleet will all race at the same time and results will be calculated using the Portsmouth Yardstick, and windsurfing fleets will be 3.5m, 4.5m, 5.8m, and 6.8m.

On the 18th of June 2011, Team Astbury, the local youth windsurfing team based at Astbury Mere, went to Scotsman’s Flash, near Wigan, to compete in the second Team 15 event of the year.
Great weather, combining sun and wind, led to a fantastic event at the new venue, with lots of volunteers helping the event run so smoothly.

On 4th of June 2011 there was a tense atmosphere at Astbury Mere, as the young sailors got fired up for the 2012 Olympics by holding their own Mini-Olympic event, in association with the Sail for Gold initiative being led by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association).
Sail for Gold is the RYA’s initiative aimed at inspiring people to try sailing and/or windsurfing to get a better understanding of the two Olympic Sports. With the Olympics around the corner there is no better time to get out on the water!

The first Team 15 event of the year was held at Astbury Sailsports on the 28th May 2011. 36 kids took part in the competition including a full team of 15 from the hosts at Astbury. Some fantastic racing was held in all the fleets with close competition from all the teams, in changeable conditions. The overall team results were: -

2nd – Team Astbury
3rd – Hollingworth Hunters
4th – Windermere Ruffwinds
A local Windsurfing Instructor, Jack Connolly (17) has succeeded in destroying the competition at the first national freestyle competition of the year, his first ever national competition. The event took place on the 23rd – 24th of April at Hayling Island on the South Coast.
Despite a lack of wind, there was glorious sunshine all weekend. This led to a lightwind freestyle competition as well as the inventive use of a powerboat for Tow-in Windsurfing.
