Coming to the end of National Windsurf Week (NWW) we are running Free tasters, as well as our usual Friday and Saturday team 15 at 5:30pm-7:30pm and 11am-1pm respectively. As well as this we also have our regular Dinghy club happening on saturday 2pm-4pm. So come along and give Windsurfing a go! Book as soon as possible, Limited places!

May the 4th be with you. Today on Friday 4th of May, is our annual Star Wars day celebration. We have a Team 15 Jedi’s Vs Dinghy Club Dark Side event. ASTBURY SAILSPORTS LTD OPENS FOR THE 2012 SEASON ON THE 31ST MARCH
Working in partnership with Martin, Dan & Charlie from Edgbaston Watersports. The team are bringing a wealth of knowledge and even more qualifications so we are going to be able to do even more courses. We are so excited for this season, a little later than usual but better late than never, I’m sure you will agree. Looking forward to seeing you soon and please spread the word. If you want to keep this facility in Congleton this is your year to “use it of lose it!!!”

Team 15 Event 2 – Scotsman’s Flash

On the 18^th of June 2011, Team Astbury, the local youth windsurfing team based at Astbury Mere, went to Scotsman’s Flash, near Wigan, to compete in the second Team 15 event of the year.

Great weather, combining sun and wind, led to a fantastic event at the new venue, with lots of volunteers helping the event run so smoothly.

The racing was close and intense in every fleet, with particular excitement in the 3.5m fleet, which is the smallest sail size, with the newest and youngest sailors. The top two, consisted of Rosie Pearce from Team Astbury, and Ollie Mulhall from Windermere Rufwinds, who were both tied for points for the top position. In the end Rosie Pearce, from Team Astbury, took the top spot as she had the most consistent results out of the two.

Other good performances for Team Astbury include Mark Reynolds who came 2^nd in the 6.8m fleet, and Ben Stone who came 2^nd in the 5.8m fleet.

Matthew Turner, Head coach of Team Astbury said “It’s amazing to see the progression in our team in such a small amount of time. In just the three weeks since the last event everyone has really stepped up their game, and made it a lot harder for the competition.”

Alison Yates, Owner of Astbury Sailsports Ltd, based at Astbury Mere, the home of Team Astbury said “Everyone is sailing brilliantly at the moment, the rate of improvement has been phenomenal over the last few weeks, and its looking like a great season lies ahead of us.”

Team 15 Event 1 – Astbury Sailsports 28th May 2011

The first Team 15 event of the year was held at Astbury Sailsports on the 28th May 2011. 36 kids took part in the competition including a full team of 15 from the hosts at Astbury. Some fantastic racing was held in all the fleets with close competition from all the teams, in changeable conditions. The overall team results were: -

4th – Windermere Ruffwinds

Half-Term Children’s Courses

Need something to do over half-term? Want to try something new and exciting? Come on down to Astbury Sailsports. Running during the half-term holidays, starting on Tuesday 31st May – Friday 3rd May, we are running childrens courses in windsurfing, dinghy sailing and kayaking, or why not try all three?

Running 10:00 – 13:00: -

Windsurfing Stage 1/2 – Learn to windsurf and be able to sail around comfortably in light wind

Dinghy Stage 1/2 – Learn to dinghy sail and be able to sail around comfortably in light wind

BCU Paddlepower 1-5 – Learn to kayak and canoe, and have the skills to be able to paddle around the lake and have some fun

Running 14:00-17:00: -

Windsurfing Stage 3 – Progress your windsurfing skills and learn to sail more efficiently and faster in stronger winds

Dinghy Sailing Stage 3/4 – Progress your dinghy sailing skills and learn to sail more efficiently and faster in stronger winds, and progressing towards crewboats

BCU Paddlepower 6-10 – Advance your paddling skills with skills that will help you to have more fun and paddle more efficiently.

Multi-Activity – Can’t decide what to try? The multi-activity course is for you! Have a go of all three sports, and progress onto one of the courses for your favourite over the summer holidays.

Mini-Olympics

In preparation for the Olympics, Astbury Sailsports will be running a Mini-Olympic watersports competition. The event will be for teams of 6 comprising of: -

Atleast one person who was new to the sport within the last year
Atleast one female
Atleast one over 50
Someone who has never sailed at Astbury before
One child
One member of staff

June 4th 2011 – £30 per team
